Overlooking Lake Ontario with views of the sparkling skyline, Palace Place is one of the most sought-after locations in the GTA. If lakefront condos are the gold standard of Toronto, Palace Place is the jewel in the crown.
Built by the iconic condo firm Bramalea in 1993, the building is known for its innovative structural foundation as well as residential living standards and services second to none, with its age-of-glamour finishes in the front lobby with fine marquetry and solid marble floors. But the dark hallways, while they featured beautiful hardwood finishes, were weighed down by a heavy, staid forest green and burgundy colour combination. The busy carpet pattern of scrolling curlicues contributed to a look stuck in the past, unlike the more timeless foyer on the main floor of the building.
Folio created custom wall sconces inspired by Rockefeller Centre and a gently ruched wallpaper was used to lighten and brighten and provide soft texture to the walls. A softer toned carpet was laid alongside the new tile perimeter and new door thresholds with a meandering scrolling pattern.
The original ceilings were of the popcorn stucco variety, and the visible conduit was hidden when Folio made the ceilings smooth and bright with not a cable in sight. Marble look tiles were laid along the perimeter, necessitating painstaking removal and reinstallation of all of the original walnut trim and casings. The result is a bright and classic yet modern complement to the lobby.
