Material Brief
- Manufacturer’s Warranty – Look for 15 years to lifetime for corridors
- Solution Dyed is preferable to overprint due to the colour being part of the fibre of the extruded fibres.
- Higher yarn Density is more costly, thicker, more high quality
- Weight range 20-26 oz for Carpet tile, 24-36 for broadloom (weight denotes quality with broadloom)
- Look for Mould/Mildew resistant fibers.
- Fire rating is subject to application – Fire-rated Broadloom is typically approved for all highrise floors, while carpet tile, due to its vinyl backing is approved only on floors with sprinkler systems installed.
- Accessibility concerns – no cut pile
Process Brief
- Receive and check quantity, check sequential package/skid numbers
- Check against Project book spec sheets. Approve correct material
- Check dye lots – sample and number
- Allocate floor by floor
- Start at bottom floor or top
- Pull up old carpet – if double glued, pull up underpad in separate process
- Remove nails, tacks, transition strips and all other old material
- Dispose of off-site (some manufacturers take back) or on-site.
- Remove old adhesive residue – scrape, dispose of old foam and glue.
- Remove in blocks of 10 floors.
- Once 10 floors are done, begin applying primer. Ventilate until dry
- Apply Adhesive – ventilate until dry-high-tack
- Bring up Assigned carpet batch floor by floor and install
- Mark reserve boxes by floor for dye lot matching.
- 12 working days for 10 floors
- Apply new carpet tile, incorporating specific design floorplan or if broadloom, the addition of transition strips where necessary
- LVT or hardwood as a border is an option along corridors.
- Carpet tile can be applied in different patterns and floors can be alternating patterns or colours.
