Project Description

The important role that lines play in the world of design is clear – they form the foundation for some of the other design elements and principles. Used by interior designers to define the forms and shapes within an area, lines act as a visual guide to an interior space.

Broadly categorized as being horizontal, vertical or dynamic, lines help influence the type of interactions occurring within a space. Horizontal lines found in structures such as tables, chairs and beds help create a safe, secure feeling. A free and expansive sensation is found in vertical lines, such as those found in windows and doorways. Dynamic or angular lines, evident on structures like stairs, are action-oriented and add a sense of drama.
